And we had a chevette. Bought it for something like 300 bucks. Neither of us were really flush at that point, and it got us around for a long time and did so very cheaply and rwd-ly.
Neither of us liked grey though, so in crazedclay style, it became not grey.
Incidentally, this is the car I forced my SO to drive manual on. Four speed manual. We started in a parking lot and at a slow spot I tucked and rolled and started running (part of the master plan). SO freaks out but starts jockeying gears all on his own and manages to chase me down in my own shitbox. Hasn't gone back to an automatic yet.
Miss that little shitbox.

Sometimes it isn't the more valuable things in life we miss but the ones that contain our fondest memories that we yearn for and wish to return to that simpler time when they were ours.~ Vincent Becker

The word "rwd-ly" should become A Thing.

This looks like a good contender for a cheap rally car. All it really needs is a stripped interior and a set of used dirt tires.

I'm just astonished you were able to find an (I assume) running Chevette in 2009. One of those cars that was all over the place for the longest time, then BAM, overnight they disappeared.

I learned how to drive stick shift in a Chevette almost exactly like that. Very, very cool.
